Driving Home For Christmas

Post by ace of hearts »

Not sure if it should be in the news section, but a pretty good cover of Driving home for Christmas was posted today on You Tube... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3d61qMNplrg of course wont beat Chris Rea, but it is fresh and worth a listen.
could this be true, could this be me..

Hey,

Thanks for the link, not a bad version - actually sounds pretty good with only one guitar.
But the voice is too fresh and clean to me :) Somehow every time when I get to sing CR I do it deep and hoarse.
Of course my standard singing voice is deep and a bit hoarse but I double that in case of a CR song.
Anyway tastes differ... but this cover is quite good.

Hi,

One month to go to Christmas, and will this video reach the one million hits before then?

It probably will, but as every comment posted lands in my inbox.....I will have plenty to read.

Behind the guarded walls I used to go
Upon a summer wind there's a certain melody
Takes me back to the place that I know
Down on the beach

Very true, and if you are like me, you just have to have it playing in the car, fingers tapping on the wheel and singing along :D

Peter,

Your two videos (Driving Home and On The Beach), are the Chris Rea videos with most views on youtube! :D :D

I too think you will reach the one million views milestone by this Christmas..... :D

Hi Everyone,
Lily I see what you mean...you know I have seen Chris do this a thousand times and it wasn't until someone commented on it that I took notice. It is so cute the way he does it.
While we are on the subject I wonder what it would be like if Chris did a more recent version of this song or maybe it is just perfect as it is??
Tina :) :)

I've said it before and i'll say it again.
This is the ONLY Chris Rea song played on the radio in Canada and only @ Christmas !
And Tina it is perfect the way it is !

Hi,

I went shopping this morning at the local super market in town, packed with people

getting things ready for Thanksgiving, when all of a sudden "On The Beach" started playing

on the radio, loud, for everyone to hear. "That's Chris Rea singing!!" I said out loud,

and everybody looked at me like... "aha".

It may have not been Driving Home For Christmas, but it sure felt like it!!!

Needless to say I had a big smile on my face the rest of the shopping.... :D :D

Thats the sort of thing I would do, makes shopping much better when music you love is being played. The only day I have got to do some Christmas shopping is 15th December, I better be organised and not get distracted by Chris Rea and 'Driving home for Christmas' eh :D

I had a similar experience several years ago in Cabo,Mexico.
I was standing in front of a full sized mechanical santa in disbelief as it played The Yellow Rose Of Texas and on the stores music system On THe Beach came on.They probably subscribe to the same mussac provider. As long as they use Chris and not some HORRIBLE cover i'm OK with that.

The thing is they don't play Chris Rea here! Ever!

It's a small town of 3000 (about 9000 in the whole county)

I did hear him more often in NYC....:-)
