New Chris Rea release 20/08/2007

Hi everyone, just found this pre release at play.com 'The Works' (3cd) due out 20th August 2007.
No art work or track listing, but I guess it will be another collection going by the title ?

Long time lurker but 1st time of posting.
Can't find much info about the album on the Net other than its release date but if it's on the WEA label I'm suspicious it could be yet ANOTHER compilation album. I don't know but am hoping not.

Hi, I think you could be right. I'm hoping it is a collection of songs either previously unreleased that were not used on albums and/or B sides and songs from mini albums that Chris use to release.

I also hope it's going to be a compilation of "Previously Unreleased Works" by CR. The WB still owns the rights to it, therefore marketing department probably decided to feed the audience and catch a piece of the lucrative market. The new items are being released by Chris on his own and are distributed by either Edel Records or Universal Music (under Polydor/Jazzee Blue label.)
But, it's a good news that Chris reappears every once in a while.

I'm afriad WEA/Warner record of releasing compilations is not encouraging with regard to the inclusion of rare / previoulsy unreleased tracks.
They usually spend as little time and money as possible on such projects (where the artist has moved on to another label) and focus on the artists better known songs..but maybe this time will be different!

well, I just don't see any sense in releasing the hits for the 5th time or so... I don't think it'll sell so probably they'll go for something more creative

I'm disappointed as well. The selection was done at random, no major (leading) theme what-so-ever, no indication of style changes, so many good pieces left out....
Bound for failure on the market, I guess.
Well, "Horses" for those who never heard this song, but all the rest already published, here and there, it this or that format....

For roughly nine pounds it could be worth buying the 3CD set if only for a nice picture of Chris Rea on the sleeve!
