Blues Fest Concert

Post by Crusoe »

Hello All,

I have just come back from an amazing concert by Chris at the Royal Albert Hall.

While the sound is still ringing in my ears ( yup it was nice and loud) , I thought why not give a review of this fabulous evening.

First of all let me say that I was super lucky to have front row seats, right in the centre with Chris right in front of me. That alone was enough to get me in the mood since I bought them 4 months ago !

The Royal Albert Hall itself is a magnificent and imposing venue and when full was buzzing with a great atmosphere.

Chris and the band came on stage at 7.30 and there was an addition of two female backing singers !

His set was a mix of the usual plus a few songs that I hadn't heard him play live before.

Also the fact that he had these two singers , resulted in Chris changing a number of his songs to adapt to them.

This made his whole performance a whole lot different. I have to say that I really thought this added a depth and twist that really was very enjoyable compared to his usual gigs.

Not only that, but they had prepared a synchronised dance rhythm routine to all of Chris songs that really lent to a warm feeling that made a positive contact with the audience . This is especially important, as Chris is not really known for getting too close and communicating with the audience in his gigs.

Chris himself was on amazing form. Full of energy . Dancing around the stage. And playing with an energy that left me envious ( I need to get to the gym as soon as possible )

Chris also played a beautiful guitar solo intro to the song Julia. Really moving.

The time seemed to fly, and on the dot at 9.00 ..That was it .. The audience were crying out for more. But the road crew were instantly on the stage like bees dismantling. I found out after , that Robert Plant was performing that evening at 10.30 , and they had to change totally the set.

Music : Well I have been to quite a few of Chris concerts and the band played a great set, but the usual suspects were mostly immobile.. Except of course Sylvain who as always had a smile and laugh and a few cool dance steps :-)

As for photos.. I have got quite a few , but nothing that probably everybody has not seen before

More of a memory really, that will remind me of how lucky I am to have seen Chris in full form , performing my favourite music.

What more could I ask for !

Hi Crusoe,

thanks a lot for posting that!

Lucky you to have an opportunuty to hear something new from Chris!

Though I remember Chris once had femalу vocal back-up in 1994 and 2001, this is really amazing!

How many unfamiliar songs did he play? Did he play something old but unexpected?
Did he play Josy, RtH, OtB and Let's Dance as usual / in usual way?
Was Max present on stage?

Thanks a lot indeed!

Andrey

News at last! Thank you for your review. Could you please post some pictures?
Perhaps you could re-create the set list?
The main thing is: Chris went back to the stage.
Best regards to all,
Chris

Two videos on Youtube already...

The two female singers in blue jeans, no usual musicians.... I think only Sylvin Marc on the bass, on the keyboard Neil Drinkwater, And on the guitar and drums....?

If my eyes do not deceive, would that be anto drennan and kirt rust on guitar and drums, who both played on the Santo spirito tour? Both superb musicians who I think certainly contributed a lot to the harder, tighter sound on the last tour, and by the sounds of it at this last gig too - sounds like it was a good one!

Correct re Anto and Kirk as the two remaining members of the band.

As for the two backing singers, I am sorry I thought they brought nothing to the concert.

The set list was the same as the last tour, but due to time constraints four songs were dropped. Work Gang, Stainsby, Looking For The Summer and OTB.

Friends. I think Chris looks really bad. Gray-haired and more emaciated. (((in close-up looks like he is wearing a wig (((I hope this is not due to radiation medical therapy.I hope all will be well with him, but the picture is sad. I'm very concerned.

Look at the temple on the cheek. THERE is no hair and white skin.

I hope I'm mistaking about it. :( :( :(
