Big White Door (misprinted words)

Post by imagemkr »

Looking at the lyrics on this website and listening to the song (currently my favorite from Blue Guitars) I noticed some discrepencies. Checked the lyrics in the book and they are the same. I have italicized the printed text and added the actual words next to it. Listening to the song, I have to think they are misprints rather than an adlib change during the recording. No big deal. Just curious.

Big white door

Looks like I’m flying
But I’m crawling slowly (slower)
I learn (learned) the way to swim
Is just to let it go
Don’t expect nothing
Don’t smile or grieve no more
Except ('cept) maybe a little more pain
And a little more closely (closer)
To the big white door

First time I saw it
My fear ran wild
Screaming like a drowning man
Crying like a child
But each time I lashed out
It was (seemed) a little closer than before
Then it rose up like a giant
The screaming silence
Of that big white door

Now I’m gliding on the fast flow
Now I’m falling through the air
Seems like everything is moving slowly (slower)
Now I find I don’t seem to care
A little closer
A little darker
'Til there’s nothing else more (no more)
Just the universe in shadow
Of the big, the big white door
Of the big white door
