Chris Rea "B Sides and Singles" recordings

Post by lilybee »

Hi Everybody :D

There are a few of us interested on this topic, so I'll get it started... :D

I personally am not familiar with the B sides of Chris Rea's earlier work and would like to have some sort of list of them. (I don't even know one to post it in here, but those of you who do, please do.)

In talking with Tina, Jim, and Thom, they came up with quite a few B songs.
Here are some of them:

PIGS MIGHT FLY
DON'T WANNA GO
SUNRISE
BABY PLEASE DON'T GO
TRUE LOVE
URBAN SAMARI
DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE
TEACH ME TO DANCE
FOOTPRINTS IN THE SNOW
TRUE TO YOU
STRANGE DANCE
I SAW YOU COMING
SHE GONNA CHANGE EVERYTHING
LET ME BE THE ONE
BITTER SWEET
DANCING SHOES
FROM LOVE TO LOVE
SMILE
SIERRA SIERRA
YA NO TE VEO NUNCA
VOY A VOLVERME LOCO
CLEVELAND CALLING
MIDNIGHT LOVE
BORN TO LOOSE
SO MUCH LOVE
DON'T LOOK BACK
LOOK OUT FOR ME
LETS DANCE
EVERYTIME IT RAINS
DANCING SHOES

I'm sure there are more songs out there, so please contribute your "two cents".
It would be really helpful to have them by album, single, year, etc. as many details as possible, and even better if someone happens to have an image or pix of them.

These are NOT bootlegs, these are real recordings done at different times.

Thanks!

Lily

Hello Lilly;

I know I have been telling this often last few years, but it is still true; I am working on a discography section for this site. This is due to include all releases I know of with scan of the cover (if available), tracklist, etc. I think I own somthing in the order of 75% of everything Chris has ever released (400 LP's, 500 7" singles, 250 cassettes, 75 VHS/DVD's, 750 CD's&singles, etc.) so together with the help of the international visitors it must be posible to make it nearly complete... As said, been working on it between other projects (e.g. tour-dates-database) for a long time, so it may take quite a while still, but eventually it 'll be there and then you can find all rare songs ever released (at least that is my - ambitious, I know - goal...) :?

Good Deal Bart! :D Can't wait.

Meanwhile, listing them here would be a good start, to see how much knowledge there really is out there about this topic...

(P.S. Did you get my e-mail? )

Hi,

I think

1975,
I Thought I was Going To Lose You,
We Dont Have a Problem,
That The Way It Goes,
Ruby Blue,
The Mans so Cool,
One Sweet and Tender Touch,
Melancholy,
The Van Stomp/Glasgow Horizon,
Early in The Morning,
If You Love Me Girl,
Dont Turn Away,
Yes I Do,
If You Chose To Go,
Se Sequi,
I am Taking The Day Out,
He Should Know Better,
Highway To The Sun,
And When She Smiles,
Hudsons Dream,
Six Up,
Before I Go,
There`s Only You,
Roadrunner,
Fascination,
If I Ever Break Free,
Members Only,
Hamburg/St Petesburg,
Ghostwriter,
If Anybody Asks You,
Mystery Man,
Nicolette,
Theme From Pantile Journals,
Von Trips,

can be added to your list.

Then you can add the different versions of the classic Chris Rea songs, like Josephine (dance, remix etc).

Then you can add the songs Chris played with the likes of David Knopfler, Snowy White, Deacon Blue etc.

There is a superb hidden back catalogue of Chris Rea music out there. Good Hunting.

Regards,

Peter S...
Between the eyes of love I call your name
Behind the guarded walls I used to go
Upon a summer wind there's a certain melody
Takes me back to the place that I know
Down on the beach

Well done Peter , saved me typing them !!!!
Lily , some of these songs are even better than the official album tracks , as are the early 12" remixes ,and as I have all these tracks on CD , let me know what you are looking for !!!!!!
( my daughter was in Georgia recently , she could have given them to you personally )
If you really want the originals, most of them turn up on ebay .

Hi Peter,

'Before I Go' was the theme tune to the film 'Parting Shots' which stared Chris Rea, could you tell me which singles B-side this song appears on?

Cheers. :D

As far as I know it was never put on an original release, just "in the film"

I've got Parting Shots. I want to extract the promo video of it and add it to my youtube, but I'm not sure how to do it. I would like to make a video of Before I Go, as well.

The sound quality for "Before I Go" it's pretty bad, even on a DVD, but the song itself it's beautiful. Wish they had released it separately... :(

If I remember correctly there was a plan to do a "mini soundtrack" as some B-sides of a single, but that this was cancelled on the last moment... which is indeed very bad as it is a wonderful song!

Hi Peter, :D

Anyway you could put that list with the A sides, year, etc. ?

I know it's more work but it would show where they belong...

Same deal with Tina's list, :D

Thanks,

Lily.

'Three Little Green Candles' is another b-side not mentioned above. It's on the 'You Can Go Your Own Way' single.

That's all Alan? he he

Wow, you went all the way with your list, Thanks! :D

Well, all I can say is that... I'M MISSING A BUNCH OF SONGS! :(

I love from Love to Love, and I have a scratchy version of it.

Do you actually have some of these, and maybe you can scan the images?
(Now that's a lot of work!)

Hi Everyone,
I knew Chris had a LOT of B sides and now I have found more.I knew I didn't have them all and thanks Peter for your list. The amount of these songs available makes me dizzy and the next question is how to get them.I think I will be spending a lot time around E bay in the next few months to see if I can get the last of them.Your are correct when you say about Chris's back catalogue Peter and I wonder are they all still available somewhere.
Tina :) :)
Pick up the pieces and start again.
