Hi!
I´m new to this forum butÌ´m reading it since I started digging deeper into CR´s past. I have all of his LPs and a lot of 7", 12" & CD-Singles. And I like compiling CDs a lot. So I started the Boxed Set we all are waiting for. It consists of tracks not on regular LP/CD Albums (Compilations don´t count as such). "The Rare Tracks of Chris Rea" I started and I´m not really working chronological but nearly. I will show you the tracks of the first 2 CDs I´ve compiled:

CD1:
So much love
Born to loose
Midnight love
Cleveland calling
If you really love me
Let me be the one
Don´t look back
Urban Samurai
Se sequi
He should know better
1975
Hudsons Dream
Strange Dance
I´m taking the day out
From love to her
True love
Smile
Midnight man
Look out for me
Let´s dance

CD2
Come So Far, Yet Still So Far to Go
We Don't Have a Problem
That's The Way It Goes
I Saw You Coming
Theme From The Pantile Journals
She's Gonna Change Everything
I Thought I Was Going To Lose You
Jordan 191
Ruby Blue
Teach Me To Dance
Saudade Part 1 And 2 (Tribute To Ayrton Senna)
Winter Song
Footprints In The Snow
Six Up
You Can Go Your Own Way
Three Little Green Candles
Valentino

More to follow.....

I just did them for fun and for me, so please don´t ask for copies. Thank you. Feedback is appreciated & welcome.
let me tell you abput irish blues.....

Hi Bluesinc & welcome
Interesting project ! As all of us that have dug into the B sides & rarities have discovered there are many versions of alot of songs. It's a very interesting pursuit and tough to find it all.
Try going to www.chrisrea.biz and check out the discography there. If you click on each album the various versions are there as well. This is the best place I've found for this info and helped me imensly.
As far as Chris Rea sites go you've found the best for info.By the way Bart does not allow bootlegging & copying to go on on his site so no worries there.

No.
There's a part that sounds slower and similar, but it's not it...
Thanks for the answer anyways!

It just won't get out of my head! I managed to play it on a guitar, but it doesn't sound that good.

Hi Jim ,
Great song hidden away on a rare hits album ....typical C.R......the story goes that it was written for an un-named Kevin Costner movie, but was obviously not used...here is a link to it on youtube

Hi Folks!
Been a lurker for the past few months and noting down all the CR b-sides and non-album tracks, so that I could start my own hunt. Man, this is more of an epic trip than a simple rummage around!

Anyway, I finally completed my first part, and would like to share with you to see if you think I have missed anything during this period. All the single remixes/edits etc.. will be added in a seperate compilation for just that, anyway, here goes:

Chris Rea
Don't Look Back: The B-Sides 1978-85

Fool (If You Think It's Over) - '78 [MAG 111]
01.Midnight Love
Diamonds - '79 [MAG 144]
02.Cleveland Calling
Tennis - '80 [MAG 163]
03.If You Really Love Me
Loving You - '82 [MAG 215]
04.Let Me Be The One
Every Beat Of My Heart - '82 [MAG 225]
05.Don't Look Back
Let It Loose - '83 [12 MAG 233]
06.Sierra Sierra
07.Urban Samurai
I Can Hear Your Heartbeat - '83 [MAG 244]
08.From Love To Love
Love's Strange Ways - '83 [MAG 245]
09.Smile
I Don't Know What It Is But I Love It - '84 [MAG 255]
10.Mystery Man
Bombollini - '84 [MAGT 259]
11.True Love
Stainsby Girls - '85 [MAGT 276]
12.And When She Smiles
13.Sunrise
14.Dancing Shoes
15.September Blue
Josephine - '85 [MAGT 280]
16.Everytime It Rains

I managed to get clean digital transfers of the vinyl tracks, and was so surprised at the general quality of Mr. Rea's B-Side output! Serious contenders for album tracks there!
My journey will be a long one, but I'm enjoying it  Hope to chat with some of you here,
All the best,
Lewis x.

P.S. Is there really two different songs called 'All Summer Long'???

Back in February 2010 BlueMaranello asked :-
"Does anyone know anything about the tune played on Dancing Down The Stony Road DVD, when Gerry O'Connor plays banjo and Sylvin comes in dancing (and eventualy informing the guys that the dinner is ready) ?"

Well this piece of music has haunted me for ages too and I keep hearing it it some of Chris' compositions but when I go back and compare them I am not happy that they are the same.

However having listened to his latest CD from Santo Spirito Blues I am sure that Chris has used this piece of Banjo playing in track 7 called Money. Every time I hear it can see Sylvan dancing in front of his friends before becoming self conscious of what he is doing and annoncing dinner is ready. If you have the DVD from the Blue Guitars book then you can check this out. I think it is towards the end of chapter 6 on the DVD. I would be interested to hear if anyone else thinks this is the same piece of music finally put onto CD.

Hi Vivienne
You could very well be correct.I listened to both and certainly hear the similarities.
I find throughout this project I hear lines / licks & themes than I reconize from many other songs !
I find myself wandering to another song as soon as i hear a particular phrase or riff !
That's not a complaint by the way as I find it very interesting how he reaches back for elements to add to new music (every musician has a sound that's thiers).I especially like his "homage" to Joe Walsh on Santo Spirito Blues.

Hey!
I'm glad to see people noticing it! And that someone is haunted by it! It makes me feel... well, more acceptably crazy. ( I'm not weird and creepy, I'm cool and awesome. 8) )
Yes! It is similar. But not the same. There's something about that whole Dancing down the Stony Road atmosphere and that very banjo grove!
But it is the coolest thing how Chris Rea takes some same/similar tunes through different songs and albums and makes it original over and over again! And it always fits and makes sense. Soul and skill!
I was (and still am) quite possessed by the Money banjo sound.
Who knows where we might hear That Miraval Banjo Grove!

Long (LONNNNGGG) time since I last visited and love this site:)

Greetings from the Great Southern Land !! So guys and girls, if I asked you for the definitive list of B sides that should be cut to a double CD, what would they be?

For me, it'd be Urban Samurai, And When She Smiles, Love to Love, Let me be the one, Takin the day out, Cleveland calling ... and from that point, I'm in your nexpert hands.

What are REALLY the best B sides and if they happen to exclude some of the above, then why?

Wading thru 18 pages of this stuff (and reading Lily's contribs.) was great fun, but I need to get serious and do a double CD.

BTW, I have a modest collection of CR ... all his albums (vinyl) up to espresso logic, ten odd CDs and about 15 x 45rpms. The rarest if his ON STAGE cd.

Cheers

Mike
