Hi Alan,

I'm not going to ask you why...but I DO hope you are well soon and back to your old self :) You've been unwell for a while now so hopefully better days ahead.

I would think it's because he doesn't have a choice anymore. It's this or he won't be with us at all.
Take care of yourself Alan and nice to hear from you

Well maybe I'm the only fan that did not like the new versions... I liked On The Beach, but not Road to Hell, for example. The live versions were much better, I think. It seems that CR just said 'OK let's play them again' but he doesn't seem to like the songs as much as he did when he wrote them so it sounds like he doesn't really feel what he sings in these old songs anymore. As always, it's just my impression. But... why don't he buy a better synthesizer and better drums for Martin? I can't listen to 'The Road to Hell' with these drums :(
Sorry, you know I'm one of the biggest CR fans in country, but I'm just telling what I feel.

Hey if you didn't like them you didn't like them.
No one will fault you for that.
I think he's just done a scaled down more melow version of these songs -he even played all the instruments.
I do agree there is NOTHING like his live versions of ANY song.

Hi Everyone,

Hi Elangelo, As Jim pointed out...it is your opinion and you are entitled to that. These versions are OK but again as Jim pointed out you can't beat a live version.
elangelo wrote:It seems that CR just said 'OK let's play them again' but he doesn't seem to like the songs as much as he did when he wrote them so it sounds like he doesn't really feel what he sings in these old songs anymore.
I think these versions are proberly what Chris hoped these songs might sound when he wrote them years ago but between then and now there have just been too many variations that I think that we all have our own personal favourites.
elangelo wrote:But... why don't he buy a better synthesizer and better drums for Martin?
Does Martin not buy his own drums?? :)
Nice talking to you again Elangelo

Jim, Tina,
thank you for understanding :)
I didn't know he played all the instruments on these new songs - did I miss something?

Hi Elangelo,

Inside the back cover of the information booklet it says that these songs are "previously unrealised versions that were recorded at Sol Mill Studios in 2007,Produced by Chris Rea,All instruments played by Chris Rea"
Goes to show how tallanted Chris really is :)

Maybe that's why the drums sounded different !
Perhaps C.R. is a way better writer/singer/guitar player/artist/race car driver than he is a drummer /actor (parting shots is cute but no academy award).
Let's just say these are "unassisted" versions of these 6 songs.

Oops! Yes, that explains everything, but then I can say that the drums are nice for a non-drummer (although I would have chosen different drums / different drum machine ;) )
At any case, I'm glad that he does what he loves to and that this CD is not just another compilation of songs made by someone else who doesn't care about CR's music.

I think its just a CD for the new label Cris is contracted to and so he re recorded some hits, taht they can use it. I don´t think that he made them with full heart, they would sound different. I bought it with hope for the production but the production is´nt satisfying. And, as a musician, it sounds like a home recording on pc. But I love Chris and his music but it this an unnecessary event.
let me tell you abput irish blues.....

Hi everyone here,

Ear Music of Germany, who produced Chris's books Blue Guitars and The Return of the Fabulous Hofner Blue Notes, has recently reissued the 2008 compilation "Fool If You Think It's Over – The Definitive Greatest Hits" as a 2LP vinyl edition.

This is the first reissue of a Chris's album on vinyl since 1991 WEA series and first vinyl LP since 1994 The Best of Chris Rea. Moreover, this is the first ever double 12'' vinyl (2LP) for Chris.

The reissue is based on 13-track version of this album, omitting the last 2 tracks of the 15-track version (Blues for Jancie and The Shadow of a Fool), as well as 2004 track Speed, thus containing 12 tracks only.

The reissue was released on July 31st and is now widely on sale (Amazon, HHV, etc.) at a decent price of ca. 30 Euro. Please note this is not a heavyweight or audiophile vinyl.
