Most underrated B-sides

Post by tobi777 »

Hi all,

as we all know Chris released a lot of B-sides over the years - many of them not available as regular album tracks. My question for you: which tracks do you think are underrated and should have been album tracks or even singles?

My list:
Sunrise
From Love To Love
Let Me Be The One
September Blue (not the album track)
She's Gonna Change Everything
True To You
Yes I Do

Cheers,

Tobi

Hi Tobi and all,

Years ago I wished "True To You" had been a major hit for Chris, but somehow it never was.
Just listen to this cover by Johnny Hallyday, right here:

Take care,

I too think that True To You should have been in album and single too, why not :)
Too many good words to add here.
I better just sit back and drink beer. :)

I think "True To You" is one of his best songs of that era - a shame it is "hidden" on the (now quite rare) Winter Song CD-Single. I read somewhere Chris wrote this song for Johnny Hallyday - maybe he didn't want to interfere with the release of Johnny's version and released it as a "C-Side" - same with "Teach Me To Dance" (Heaven 12") sung by Victor Lazlo.

Cheers,

Tobi

Between the eyes of love I call your name
Behind the guarded walls I used to go
Upon a summer wind there's a certain melody
Takes me back to the place that I know
Down on the beach

Yes Elangelo this is another C.R. song (sounds a little different in another language).
It's on Heaven 12" single & Lookings for the Summer E.P. in 1991 (Auberge era).
These are the only places I can see iut appears.
Good song though.

Hi Jim and others,

Teach Me to Dance also appears as one of the 3 bonus tracks on Japanese CD release along with the 2 instrumentals - Theme from Pantile Journals (from Looking for the Summer single) and Hudson's Dream (from Auberge single). The CD is a real rarity and I can only wish I could own it...

No, he really doesn't... The tunes came together from different CD singles he owns. As a vynil collector I got myself Auberge 12'' single with Hudson's Dream in excellent sound on it, however, the other 2 songs do not appear on vynil singles but do on CD singles which appear to be even harder to find than vinyl...

Andrew & Elangelo
OK I forgot to check I do have the Japanese Auberge CD (1991 Magnet VICP-5041W/ Hudson's Dream/ Theme From THe Pantile Journals/ Teach me to dance.I know it is fairly rare but I can't recall where I found it (either E-bay or Eil.com).As a matter of fact one just sold on e-bay for $16.50 U.S. and there's another up for bid
(item # 380242315551)
I've found several of the Japanese releases have bonous tracks.

Thanks Jim!

Not all of the Japanese releases have something unusual in store. E.g., Blue Jukebox has no any, Espresso Logic has only duet with Sir Elton in the middle, The Very Best of 2001 has 2 songs in the end different from the worldwide release, but they appear to be no surprise... The true diamonds for fans are Blue Cafe and King of the Beach Japanese releases, as they contain special bonus tracks - 2 songs each - unavailable elsewhere.

They're lucky as you say since there's always less risk to get the albums consisting 'not surely good' tracks done down by the audience and critics. So the production managers assume.

I would say Blue Café & Road to hell pt 2. The bonuses (Mississippi, There´s only you) from the Japan-King of the beach are also on the Who do you love CD Single though Mississippi is also on the UK Version of King of the beach
Road to hell pt 2 has interesting bonus tracks which are exclusive to the Japan CD: Be my friend and a new version of Driving home for christmas, also The way you look tonight wich wasn´t on every edition of the CD.
