Can´t help of taking part to this as I´ve been silent with this for a long time now :)

There is artists out there who refuse to be puppets for the audience wishes and they make the audience love the gig even when they don´t play all the hits, only one or two. These artists has the balls to be their own boss and I would love to see that kind of act from Chris during the live gigs. I mean, taking more risks can pay off when it´s done with class. Talking about the fact that it starts from musicians and it´s in their hands and hearts, when they do miracles on stage it really doesn´t matter if they leave out some of the worn out hits, audience just has to love it. And it is artists fault if he or she can´t sell anything else but the obvious hits, then they gotta do more to make it happen with the other great songs as well.
Too many good words to add here.
I better just sit back and drink beer. :)

Anyway, I've got a recording of 2002 gig from Montreux where Chris played ONLY the songs from the latest Stony Road and the audience seemed to be happy as it can be heard in the pauses between songs played as well as seen in the video footage on Stony Road DVD.

BUT: just remember the discussion of Chris's promises/wishes to play The Delmonts' only material at a series of gigs... I suppose, there should be some compromising.

I must admit that hardly many new songs can be heard on 90's tours.
For instance:
1991 Naked Truth Tour - only 4 new songs: Set Me Free, Winter Song, Looking for the Summer and Auberge.
1993 GGBS Tour - again only 4: GGBS, Nothing to Fear, Too Much Pride (not all arenas), Soft Top.
1994 Espresso Tour - even worse: Julia (only some gigs), Red, This Kind of Love (non-album track), other new songs from Espresso Logic I've never heard live...
1998 Blue Cafe Tour - 5 new songs (and it seemed enough): Blue Cafe, Square Peg, Shadow of the Big Man, Anyone Quite like You, Miss Your Kiss + Midlight Blue unplayed live since 1986.

2002 Stony Road Tour - vice versa, only 3 oldies: TRTH, OTB and Josie!
2004 Jukebox Tour: approximately 50/50, and it was quite good.
2006 TRTH&B: 7 new songs and 13 oldies, which seeme good enough for the tour positioned as farewell, but such a titanic work as Blue Guitars could make an entire tour programme...

Great research, Andrew! By the way, I remember a video on YouTube where Chris plays Espresso Logic live. Posted by Lily, as far as I recall.

Hi Elangelo!

I remember only one gig I've ever seen in video, where Chris played more Espresso material (Red, Soup of the Day) - it was sort of festival in Italy (Maranello? Monza?), dedicated to some racing jubilee. The attendance was very poor, and it was late spring, probably one of the last venues of that tour, during which Chris played almost only the material from 3 previous albums...

Hi,

I was on the concert in Cologne in 1994 (Espresso logic tour) - and I think he played Espresso logic, Red, Soup of the day and Julia. Back again in Cologne in 1991 I attended at the Naked-Truth-Tour concert (2nd night) and also there he played more than the four songs. He did Gone fishing and Heaven too. That is still the best Chris Rea concert I have ever seen - he played nearly 2 hours and rocked the house. Very impressive band!!!

In 1998 he visited Cologne again and performed for the last time at the Sporthalle (which was tore down shortly after that concert) - he played also Thinking of you.

The worse case scenario happened in 2001, when he played an outdoor show in Cologne and played 0 songs from his promoted album KING OF THE BEACH - very disappointing. Also lasted the show only for 80 minutes and no encore was given...sad sad sad!!!

Ok, that's it - have a good time and thankx for reading :)

Well, great thanks for your reply!
I really forgot about Footprints in the Snow (1991 non-album track) and Thinking of You certainly was played as well at most venues in 1998.

And about 2001 tour - I thought it was totally cancelled, only a couple of TV shows (All Summer Long and The Bones of Angels played)! You were that lucky (or probably not&..) to see Chris live just before his worst illness period and the life-threatening operation! I think it's quite clear why he played then only some old pieces...

By the way, I just can't understand what was the real reason why Chris scrapped Fool from 2008 setlist after a couple of gigs... And no more "Moonriver" from "Breakfast at Tiffany's"... :( Even no recording of it on the Net...

Well, I think it's pretty clear that it could cause some copyright problems.

His producer has told that "moon river" in Chris's vocal version sounds not good.
And I agree with him. It is too much groan and rattle. Live execution was awful. When I heard it in Kremlin, I was horrified.

About Fool. I think that the first reason is injections under the schedule. Probably simply His health has worsened during tour.

To Elangelo, maybe You'll go to concert? Not first row but maybe balcony-gallery? Someone told that Kremlin Balcony zone has good sound.

Really? As for me, I loved it! It sound so personal. Of course, it's not for a CD, but I loved it when I heard it live.

Well, for now I don't see any reason. I don't want the balcony because to me, a concert is not only listening, but also watching :) And why would I go if I know all the live versions now and can't expect anything new?.. I'd prefer to wait until 2011 when we could expect Chris to tour with his new coming album.

And you are the optimist ;) Chris told couple of years about 5 injections every day. Already it's seven. With such rates He'll finish his tours. : (
He's simply has not health for long time staying on the stage;(
It is necessary to appreciate each concert as if it is the last!!! :( :( :(

PS Last visit in Kiev, Chris has visited club-casino "Falkon". Where he has told that it is pleasant to it to see the casino name because his father comes from Italy. From village near to mountain Falkon!!!

I think that the new information for family biography of Chris.:)

Yes, I agree, and still, this time I guess I'll find a better use for the money. I can't buy one ticket now, it will have to be two, and it's just too much :)
