Fav Lyrics...

Hi,

After the brief discussion on Shadows of a Big Man, lets try another..

My favourite opening line from a CR song is:-

"Some girls used to kiss and run
Never knew what they had done..."
(Stainsby Girls)

The two quotes below from other CR songs that i find to be just sublime....

A little something in there to call my own
Pass the time of day and head off home
The evening shadows on the dry stone walls
The night draws in and the ale house calls
And happy I will be....
(Chisel Hill)

Also

Every land you will go
You will always see
There`ll be big stout glasses
Full to the white top...
(To Far From Home)

Spooky that both relate to drink, but then again i am a Scot...cheers

Peter S...

I love these words from the song "You must follow" from La Passione. It is so descriptive and you can just close your eyes and imagine the scene. To me Chris is a poet who is so brilliant he can put his words to music. :D

I recall the fleeting glimpse of light
That smiled across a sky of darkest grey
And a summer dress of cotton
Gently moved in fields of green

It's out there somewhere
Way past the sunset line
Way out on the open road
And me I'm always looking down
Down that road out of town
Each morning and night you can see me
I'm singing set me free
Set me free

It's a big, theatrical song and that section of lyrics just does it for me. It's a song that I think has the potential to be an awesome live piece with the right band / orchestra behind it.

Yes, indeed. It's very theatrical, this "Set Me Free" song from the "Auberge", and it could well lead, or be, the main theme of a musical. It sounds to me more like an overture to an opera, on difficult life in Africa, on liberation, actually from anything. I wonder if Chris could still write an opera or a musical?
He ventured into the blues and it almost ruined him financially. I think he should go back and build on what he had done best earlier in his career.
Take care,
Chris

Hi Vivienne,
That is one of my faves, great guitar solo on it.

From "King of the Beach" I love "Guitar Street"

"there's a crazy sense of duty
as he licks between his fingers
wipes the ketchup from his face and hands
theres a strong determination
his teachers never witnessed
never close enough to understand"

Regards,
Kev.
